November 30, 2020: The ship, CNTIC V-POWER ENERGY (MOTHER VESSEL), docked at the no-14 Dolphin jetty in Yangon Thilawa port on the morning of November 26. It is the very first and very large vessel arrived at the Yangon Port.
“The vessel will anchor at the port for five years for V-Power Energy Project to supply the liquified national gas for 400MW Thaketa power plant and 350MW for Thilawa power plant, totaling 750 MW. The project will supply the LNG for Yangon starting in December, and we can electrify 100 per cent, including the rural areas. According to the limited capacity of Yangon River, we set 200 meters for length and 30,000 GRT. The vessel is 272 meters in length with 106,283 GRT. This is the very first large vessel to the country. It was anchored with tugboats and took about 40 minutes. We had to make syrvery engine and hold meeting several times as is is the very first ship arrived here,” said Win Myint Aung, Harbour Master of Myanmar Port Authority.
The LNG-fuelled power project is the very first project in Myanmar and it was set up in Thilawa. The government implemented a 350MW power project in Thilawa and a 400MW project in Thaketa per year to fulfill the power demand for the coming hot season of 2020. Myanmar Port Authority organized online meetings with the stakeholders to meet the country’s power needs and decided to adopt Mobile Filling Platform (MFP).
The CNTIC V-Power Group won the tender in 2019 RGK + Z&A Group Company and Myanmar Port authority carried out the project. We built this vessel in Singapore and completed in accordance with eh guide lines laid down for the COVID-19 pandemic. It is the very first LNG power vessel for Myanmar and it will benefit distribution of electricity and generating of electricity and boost the energy security in Myanmar,” said Zeya Thura Mon, CEO of the RGK + Z&A Group Company.
