NileDutch, the Rotterdam-headquartered carrier that focuses on West Africa trade, has a new agent in India (the Samsara Group’s Oasis Shipping Pvt. Ltd) beginning February, and is looking ahead to explore new opportunities and further enhance its services, said Mr Ng Choo Beng, the Singapore-based Managing Director and Finance Director-Asia of the company.

NileDutch, which has been operating in India for some time, is renewing the opportunity to expand its service offerings. Mr Choo Beng is enthusiastic about India, given that it is today one of the fastest growing economies in the world. India is also one of the largest trading partners of West Africa. “With the investment in ports and logistics infrastructure throughout India, we expect volume to grow exponentially. Hence, the need to have a partner with extensive commercial and operational network to serve our customers better,” he said.

In conclusion, Mr Choo Beng said that 2017 will continue to be a challenging year due to supply and demand imbalance in the shipping industry, but he is cautiously optimistic about the prospects due to the recent consolidations and, hopefully, carriers focusing more on their bottom line.
