Aegis Logistics has commissioned a specialised ammonia storage and terminalling facility at Pipavav Port in Gujarat, with static storage capacity of 36,000 tonnes, adding fresh chemical logistics infrastructure to the port’s growing terminal ecosystem.

Who developed the facility and what does the disclosure confirm?

The company confirmed the commissioning in a stock exchange disclosure dated August 10. Aegis said the terminal has been developed on behalf of Aegis Terminal (Pipavav) Limited, a step-down subsidiary of the company, and is intended for the storage and terminalling of ammonia at Pipavav Port. Aegis did not disclose annual throughput capacity, the value of the completed facility, or details of its first commercial cargo in the latest announcement.

What corporate arrangements led up to this commissioning?

The commissioning follows a series of ownership arrangements relating to the terminal. In June 2025, Aegis Logistics entered into a framework agreement with Aegis Vopak Terminals Limited under which AVTL was set to acquire the 36,000-tonne ammonia storage facility once constructed by Aegis, with a separate business transfer agreement to be executed after project completion. In March 2026, Aegis approved the assignment of AVTL’s rights under the framework agreement to ATPL, with a similar business transfer agreement to follow once construction was complete.

What happens next in terms of ownership transfer?

The latest filing confirms the facility has now reached commissioning. Aegis said the terminal will subsequently be transferred to ATPL, with the stock exchanges to be informed separately once that transfer takes place, keeping the ownership handover as a distinct step from the commissioning milestone itself.

How does this fit into Aegis’s broader terminal expansion plans?

Earlier company reporting had identified the Pipavav ammonia project as part of Aegis’s terminal expansion programme, with the company’s Q4 FY2026 investor presentation continuing to list 36,000 tonnes of ammonia capacity at Pipavav as upcoming infrastructure ahead of this commissioning announcement.

What existing infrastructure does Aegis operate at Pipavav?

Aegis already operates gas and liquid terminal infrastructure at Pipavav Port. Its existing gas terminal at the port is connected to the liquid jetty and supports dispatch by road tanker as well as rail loading for LPG, giving the company an established logistics base at the port ahead of the new ammonia facility.

What does this mean for Pipavav’s role in India’s chemical logistics network?

With the ammonia storage and terminalling capacity now commissioned, Pipavav Port strengthens its position as a multi-commodity chemical and gas logistics hub on Gujarat’s coast, adding to Aegis’s presence in the sector while the formal ownership transfer to ATPL proceeds as a separate corporate step.
