Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ) handled 46 million metric tonnes (MMT) of cargo in September 2026, an 11% increase from the same month last year, according to its operational update filed with the stock exchanges on 2 October.

Container cargo was the main growth driver during the month, increasing 15% year-on-year.

How did APSEZ perform in H1 FY27?

APSEZ handled 280 MMT of cargo between April and September 2026, its highest-ever first-half throughput. The figure represents a 15% increase from the 243.5 MMT handled during H1 FY26.

Both container and dry cargo volumes grew 15% during the six-month period, contributing to the overall increase in throughput.

How did APSEZ’s rail logistics business perform?

APSEZ’s logistics business recorded mixed results during the period.

Rail volumes reached 62,302 TEUs in September, up 3% year-on-year. However, cumulative rail volumes for H1 FY27 declined 13% to 312,763 TEUs.

The September increase indicates an improvement in monthly rail volumes, although the half-year decline shows that rail logistics has not matched the growth recorded across APSEZ’s port cargo operations.

How does September compare with recent monthly performance?

September’s 46 MMT followed a record 50 MMT handled in August, which was APSEZ’s highest monthly cargo volume to date and represented 19% year-on-year growth.

August’s performance was supported by stronger domestic activity, higher container volumes and contributions from APSEZ’s international terminals, including the North Queensland Export Terminal in Australia and the Colombo West International Terminal in Sri Lanka.

What is APSEZ’s long-term cargo target?

APSEZ is targeting annual cargo volumes of 1 billion tonnes by FY31 through its portfolio of ports, marine services and logistics operations.

The company’s H1 FY27 performance reflects continued growth in its core port operations, with container and dry cargo volumes recording double-digit increases during the first six months of the financial year.
