Aegis LPG Bottling Plant Opens at JNPA

Summary

Aegis Logistics has commissioned a specialised LPG bottling plant at Jawaharlal Nehru Port with an annual capacity of 35,000 tonnes. Operational from October 15, 2026, the facility forms part of the larger J2 terminal development, which is intended for subsequent transfer to Aegis Vopak Terminals.

Commissioning adds a distribution capability

The Aegis LPG bottling plant at JNPA has entered operation, marking a milestone in the company’s development of additional gas and liquid infrastructure at the port.

The facility’s rated capacity is 35,000 tonnes annually. This represents its potential bottling throughput, rather than actual volumes processed or the quantity of LPG that can be stored at one time.

Aegis has indicated that the project will subsequently be transferred to Aegis Vopak Terminals Limited (AVTL), with a separate stock-exchange announcement to follow.

Commissioning and ownership transfer are therefore distinct stages. The latest disclosure confirms the plant’s operational status while identifying a further corporate step ahead.

Plant forms part of a larger terminal programme

The development sits within the J2 Project, a greenfield terminal programme covered by a framework agreement signed between Aegis Logistics and AVTL on November 5, 2025.

The agreed scope comprises 77,286 tonnes of LPG storage, 318,100 cubic metres of liquid-product storage and the bottling plant.

Under that arrangement, Aegis Logistics would construct and develop the facilities for acquisition by AVTL. The framework provided for Aegis to receive ₹502.50 crore upon execution, with separate asset-transfer agreements to be signed following project completion.

The announcement of bottling operations does not, by itself, confirm that every component of the broader terminal programme has been completed.

The different capacities also measure separate functions: LPG tank capacity describes storage available at a given time, while annual bottling capacity describes the volume the plant is designed to process over a year.

Earlier investment plans establish the background

In its January 30, 2026 earnings call, Aegis described the overall JNPA development as a planned ₹1,675-crore investment.

Management then reported existing operational liquid capacity of 101,900 cubic metres at the port, alongside the additional facilities under development.

The ₹1,675-crore figure relates to the wider programme. It should not be presented as the construction cost of the newly commissioned bottling plant alone.

The earlier update also envisaged phased delivery, reinforcing the importance of tracking individual assets as they become operational. A terminal development can include several interdependent facilities, each requiring its own construction, testing and commissioning process.

Bottling links bulk logistics with downstream supply

Bottling provides a distribution function within the LPG supply chain. It complements bulk receipt and storage by preparing product for movement through cylinder-based channels.

Locating these functions within a port-linked development can support coordination between product availability, filling operations and dispatch.

However, the commercial outcome depends on more than installed capacity. Customer demand, cylinder availability, transport scheduling and operating reliability influence how much product a facility handles.

For logistics providers, this creates requirements across vehicle planning, safe loading, inventory management and delivery coordination.

The commissioning announcement does not specify customer commitments, expected utilisation or a revenue contribution. Those details will determine the scale and pace of the plant’s commercial contribution.

AVTL provides the wider investment platform

AVTL was established through the partnership between Aegis Logistics and Vopak India, combining Indian logistics operations with international tank-storage expertise.

The company completed its initial public offering in June 2025. Vopak’s subsequent reporting identified a final investment decision for a major LPG and liquid-products terminal at JNPA among AVTL’s principal growth developments.

The platform’s investment programme also extends to other products and locations, including an independent ammonia storage terminal at Pipavav.

These projects illustrate the range of infrastructure being developed across the partnership. They serve different markets and should be assessed according to their individual commissioning schedules, customers and operating requirements.

Operational ramp-up becomes the next milestone

For JNPA’s energy logistics ecosystem, the immediate development is the availability of additional bottling infrastructure.

The next indicators will be throughput, utilisation and integration with the wider terminal facilities. Separately, the proposed transfer to AVTL will clarify the ownership arrangements for the commissioned asset.

Together, these steps will show how the facility moves from construction completion to sustained commercial operation.

FAQs
