Shyam Jagannathan, Director General of shipping, was also present during this visit.

During his visit, he engaged in discussions with Unmesh Sharad Wagh, IRS, Chairperson, JNPA, and CMD, VPPL, he was facilitated with a presentation highlighting JNPA’s advancements in maritime operations and sustainability initiatives. He was also apprised about the Vadhvan Port Project Ltd. – 13th Major Port of India being developed by JNPA.

The discussions centred on JNPA’s ongoing and upcoming sustainability initiatives, underscoring the port’s commitment to green and efficient port operations. Dominguez also visited key infrastructure developments, including the JNPA Special Economic Zone (SEZ) and the Centralised Parking Plaza (CPP), gaining insights into the port’s integrated approach to economic growth and environmental responsibility.

Sharing his experience about his visit to JNPA, Arsenio Dominguez, Secretary-General, IMO, said, “It’s my first visit to Jawaharlal Nehru Port, and hopefully, it won’t be the last. The hospitality has been incredible, but more importantly, I have witnessed firsthand the efficiency and quality of service this port provides—not just for India, but for the world. From expanding operational capacity to environmental conservation, investing in innovation and technology, and contributing to the IMO’s efforts toward decarbonizing the shipping industry, JNPA is making remarkable strides. The commitment to investing in people is equally commendable, and I look forward to seeing even more progress in the future at this incredible port.”

Speaking on the occasion, Unmesh Sharad Wagh, IRS, Chairperson, JNPA, and CMD, VPPL, stated, “JNPA is steadfast in its mission to align with global sustainability goals by implementing eco-friendly practices and enhancing operational efficiency. Sustainability is at the core of our growth strategy, and we continue to drive initiatives that support a greener future for the maritime sector. Our upcoming Vadhvan Port will be a 100% green port from inception, reinforcing our commitment to environmentally sustainable port infrastructure. The visit of Arsenio Dominguez reaffirms the IMO’s crucial role in steering the maritime sector toward sustainable growth through global cooperation and eco-friendly initiatives.”
