With the successful processing of 3,296,067 TEUs in fiscal year 2024–2025, Chittagong Port achieved a new record for container handling. This is a 4% annual gain, or a rise of 127,377 TEUs. Despite operational hiccups in the last few weeks of the fiscal year, this accomplishment was made. personnel observed that both port and customs operations were impacted by anti-discrimination demonstrations, two Eid holidays, transport strikes, and National Board of Revenue (NBR) personnel’ absences from work. They calculate that the port could have handled almost 3.3 million TEUs if these disruptions hadn’t occurred.

The Chittagong Custom House recorded record revenue collection simultaneously with the increase in container throughput. Customs revenues increased by Tk6,676.3 crore ($606 million) or 9.71 percent to Tk75,432 crore ($6.85 billion) in the fiscal year 2024–2025 from Tk68,755.7 crore ($6.25 billion) the year before.

In recent news, the Bangladesh government ordered tax and customs workers to end a two-day nationwide strike and return to work immediately on June 29. The strike had disrupted tax operations throughout the country, including customs operations at the port.
