CONCOR Launches New Rail Freight Service

Container Corporation of India has commenced a new business stream offering containerized cargo movement directly between Ennore Port, part of the Kamarajar Port cluster in Chennai, and Hyderabad, expanding multi-modal logistics options across Telangana and the wider Deccan region.

What route does the new service cover?

The service connects the Ennore Port and Chennai port cluster through intermediate logistics nodes directly to ICD Sanathnagar in Hyderabad, establishing a dedicated rail corridor between one of India’s key eastern gateway ports and a major inland hub in the Deccan plateau.

Why is CONCOR introducing this service?

The move is aimed at offering trade and industry a faster, more cost-effective and sustainable rail alternative to traditional road freight transport along the Ennore-Hyderabad corridor, giving exporters and importers in the region a viable multi-modal option beyond road-based logistics.

What impact is the service expected to have on regional trade?

The new corridor is expected to strengthen export-import flows for businesses operating in and around Hyderabad and the broader Telangana region, while helping cut the carbon footprint associated with moving cargo over long distances by road. By shifting containerised freight onto rail, the service supports more efficient, lower-emission supply chains linking the Deccan hinterland to a major port on India’s east coast.

What does this mean for CONCOR’s network expansion?

The launch adds to CONCOR’s growing portfolio of rail-linked container services connecting India’s ports to inland logistics hubs, reinforcing the company’s role in strengthening multi-modal connectivity and reducing dependence on road transport for long-haul EXIM cargo movement across the country.
