The Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India (DFCCIL) has invited stakeholders to submit proposals for developing a Gati Shakti Cargo Terminal (GCT) at New Nilaje, aimed at strengthening multimodal freight infrastructure connected to the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) network in the Mumbai region.

DFCCIL uploaded the Request for Proposal on 17 July 2026, outlining a phased bidding schedule. A pre-bid meeting is set for 30 July to address stakeholder queries, with bid submissions opening 17 August and tender opening scheduled for 31 August 2026.

The proposed terminal will connect directly to the DFC network, supporting multimodal cargo operations and improving first and last mile connectivity between rail and road transport. DFCCIL said the project is designed to leverage capacity created by the completed Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC) to enhance cargo movement across the Mumbai region.

The RFP follows the full commissioning of the 1,506 km WDFC earlier this year, after DFCCIL completed trial runs on the final 102 km JNPT to New Saphale stretch. The corridor now offers uninterrupted rail connectivity between Jawaharlal Nehru Port and northern India, enabling reduced transit times, higher train speeds and the movement of longer, heavier freight trains.

The New Nilaje terminal will be among several Gati Shakti Cargo Terminals planned along the DFC to strengthen last mile logistics and support India’s expanding rail-based freight ecosystem. DFCCIL said the initiative reflects its continued push to build freight infrastructure that complements the operational western corridor while improving multimodal logistics efficiency nationwide.
