Dhamra Port has achieved a major operational milestone with the successful handling of its first commercial vessel through the newly commissioned Mechanized Loading System at Export Terminal-B4, marking the commencement of mechanized commercial operations at the facility.

Which vessel was handled and what cargo did it carry?

The vessel, MV APJ Jaouad, was loaded with thermal coal for Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation using the state-of-the-art mechanized ship loader, marking the terminal’s transition to commercial-scale mechanized cargo handling.

What does this milestone mean for Dhamra Port’s capabilities?

The mechanized loading system is expected to enable faster vessel turnaround times, increase loading efficiency and strengthen Dhamra Port’s position as a leading bulk cargo gateway on the East Coast of India. The achievement reflects the port’s ongoing commitment to enhancing operational efficiency, improving cargo handling capabilities and delivering superior service to customers.

What makes Dhamra Port strategically significant?

Dhamra is one of India’s deep draft ports, capable of accommodating super Cape-size vessels, and operates as an all-weather, multi-user, multi-cargo facility positioned to become the largest and most efficient port on India’s east coast. Its proximity to the mineral belts of Odisha, Jharkhand and West Bengal gives it strong hinterland connectivity and operational advantages for bulk cargo movement.

What are Dhamra Port’s broader growth ambitions?

Dhamra Port is among the fastest-growing ports in eastern India, with an aim to become a 100 MMT port by 2030. The successful commissioning of mechanized loading at Export Terminal-B4 represents another step in the port’s journey toward world-class infrastructure, operational excellence and customer-centric logistics solutions.
