In an innovative initiative, the port Officers and employees visited the crowded Vasco vegetable market and interacted with the citizens and impressed upon them the need to discard plastics from our daily use. They briefly explained the harmful effects of plastics on human life as well as the environment. As a goodwill gesture, and in order to convey our serious concern to the general public to stop the use of ‘single use plastics’  nearly 100 cloth  marketing bags were freely distributed to the citizens. The plastic bags carried by the people for marketing were surrendered to our volunteers. The campaign received a very encouraging response not only from the general public present in the vegetable market, but from the vegetable vendors too. By and large, the citizens appreciated the efforts of the Port Management in creating an awareness and distributing the cloth marketing bags to the citizens and they enthusiastically supported the initiative. The port will carry out more such campaign in the markets places in future and distribute more cloth bags to the general public.
