ECU Worldwide, a global multi-modal logistics major and the world’s leading player in Less-than Container Load (LCL) ocean freight consolidation, today announced the appointment of Clas Thorell as the Global Head for LCL Product & Yield Management. Clas will focus on digitizing partner freight forwarders’ experience by delivering 24×7 access to bookings and real-time tracking and build a stronger network of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), and E-commerce companies globally. He will be based in the Hong Kong office.

Bolstered by the transformation initiatives focused on digitization, ECU Worldwide’s proprietary ECU360 platform will help to deliver door-to-door logistics support cost-effectively to freight forwarders as well as SMEs and unlock global growth opportunities. ECU Worldwide’s recent acquisition of a majority stake in Nordicon, a Swedish logistics company, to expand its LCL presence in the Nordics region and in Europe gives them a strategic advantage to leverage an all-new rail freight proposition that starts from China to Europe.

As the Product Management Head, Clas will lead the efforts to build a competitive advantage for ECU’s LCL portfolio, a central element in the growth strategy of the company. Known as a strong operating and product management leader who builds teams around a clear strategy, Clas has over two decades of experience in the Ocean freight-LCL business leading growth turnarounds of several businesses throughout his career.

Tim Tudor, CEO ECU Worldwide, said, “We have made great strides in our transformation journey through digital innovations to drive leadership, I am confident that the company has the right strategy to guide our LCL business future and the addition of Clas to our leadership team is yet another strategic step in this direction. With the global experience that Clas brings and his strategic leadership capabilities in the Ocean freight-LCL business, we will see further growth in this high margin segment and continue to drive our digital aspirations.”

Clas Thorell, Global Head – LCL Product & Yield Management, said, “It is a transformative time for ocean freight with the disruptions and rapidly changing dynamics within the sector. I look forward to working with the able team at ECU Worldwide by being part of global innovations and driving growth strategies within the LCL segment. I am excited to be part of this agile and growth-oriented organization that is redefining standards in the global logistics through digitization, strengthening customer focus, and continuously expanding its multi-modal logistics proposition.” As a veteran of the ocean freight business with international experience, Clas brings prior experience leading the LCL business for DHL in the Asia Pacific region. Clas has led Panalpina’s Ocean freight-LCL business for over a decade, being responsible for managing global teams involving product innovations and customer service.
