Ennarasu Karunesan

Ennarasu is a Mechanical Engineer with more than 33 years of leadership in the maritime and ports sector, having held prominent C-Level posts at ports and terminals in Asia and the Indian Subcontinent as well as serving the Mumbai Port Authority. He currently serves as an advisor to Indian Ports.

With a Master’s Degree in Management from Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies, Mumbai, Ennarasu has a wide range of management experience in ports, container terminals, freight stations and inland container depots, as well as integrated end-to-end supply chain logistics. He introduced innovative port technologies and developed maritime infrastructure with safe & sustainable operations.

He has experience working for the Indian government, namely the Port Authority of Mumbai, in the late nineteen eighties. With two spells in Malaysia from 1996 onwards, he played a key role in establishing the renowned Westport Container Terminal in Port Klang, Malaysia as its General Manager of operations and then as CEO (2001 – 2004).

Following success there he returned to India and occupied several senior posts including Director & Chief Executive Officer, Chennai Container Terminal Ltd.(CCT), Dubai Ports World (2004 – 2015) and Joint President and CEO of the Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone, Gujarat, India (2015 – 2019). At Mundra Port he oversaw the exponential increase in capacity with the development of two major

container terminals. The port has now has become the largest in India with 30-plus berths and an annual volume of more than 150 million tons of cargo.

IAPH Managing Director Patrick Verhoeven commented : “We are pleased to have Ennarasu on board to increase our profile and activities with Indian ports. We believe that Indian ports, terminal operators and EXIM trade partners have a key role to contribute to the world ports community in the areas of energy transition, data collaboration and resilience and the IAPH can represent their interests effectively on the world stage. Ennarasu will introduce them to the potential benefits of working closer with IAPH and its port member colleagues from around the world. This reflects the prominent rise of Indian trade in the world economy.” The appointment coincides with the associate membership of India’s first high tech company Kale Info Solutions, who joined IAPH at its 2022 World Port Conference in Vancouver in May.
