Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a $175 million economic package for Seychelles during President Patrick Herminie’s state visit on February 8-9, 2026. The aid emphasizes maritime cooperation, development projects, and blue economy initiatives under the new SESEL Joint Vision framework.

Key Agreements

India and Seychelles signed MoUs on hydrography, maritime security, health, digital transformation, and capacity building. Highlights include a Seychelles Hydrographic Unit with Indian support and joint ocean research to boost blue economy growth.

Strategic Focus

Both nations committed to countering piracy, IUU fishing, and trafficking via enhanced maritime domain awareness and information sharing. The package aligns with India’s MAHASAGAR vision for Indian Ocean stability and prosperity.

Regional Impact

Seychelles joined the Colombo Security Conclave as a full member, reinforcing India-led maritime security. The leaders backed India’s UNSC permanent seat bid while prioritizing sustainable trade and defense ties.
