Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) was declared the winner of the prestigious National Sectoral Excellence Award for Best Port of India at the “4th Atal Shastra Markenomy Awards 2018” held recently.

The awards, presented for excellence in Sustainable Economy and Clean and Green Infrastructure, saw 13 winners from PSEs, corporates, SMEs as well as individuals being felicitated. These awards are named after Atal Shastra, the former Prime Minister, Mr Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s biographic treatise on Development Economics and Consensual Politics.

This is the second time that JNPT is being honoured with this award, the earlier occasion being in 2013. The jury said that the award is being presented to JNPT which handles more than 50 per cent of all container traffic of the Major Ports in the country and is India’s busiest port, even as competition is increasing from both government and private sector ports, especially on the west coast.
