Myanmar is betting high on marine exports and expects to earn $805 million from this trade in this fiscal year. Particularly, fish and shrimp exports are forecast to grow.

The country’s aquatic products are exported to over 40 countries, with China and Thailand being the main buyers.

In the fiscal year 2023-24, Myanmar generated revenues of over $720 million from exporting more than 522,000 tonnes of aquatic products. Over 240,000 tonnes of these products were shipped out via air and sea routes.

The fish exports generated over $380 million, the prawns sales earned over $38 million and other aquatic products brought in over $300 million.
