In a first for India’s inland water transport sector, vessels are being drydocked at Pandu in Guwahati using an innovative method that employs winches and balloons for vessel blocking. Conducted under the inspection of the Indian Register of Shipping, the technique cuts both time and costs significantly.
The development is a key step towards boosting efficiency and sustainability in inland waterway operations, enabling faster maintenance and improved service reliability on the Brahmaputra and other routes.
