Article

Paradip Port Authority (PPA) has established a new single-day coal loading record at its Mechanised Coal Handling Plant (MCHP), handling 1,40,022 metric tonnes (MT) on 10 October 2026.

The cargo was loaded onto two vessels, M.V. APJ Indrani and M.V. Ripley Pinnacle. The latest achievement surpassed the previous record of 1,37,500 MT, recorded on 29 May 2022 during loading operations involving M.V. Arethousa and M.V. ISL Star. The new benchmark represents an increase of 2,522 MT over the earlier record.

Shri Susanta Kumar Purohit, IRSEE, Chairperson of Paradip Port Authority, congratulated the workers, officers and personnel associated with MCHP on the achievement. He acknowledged their coordination and efforts in improving cargo-handling productivity.

The record demonstrates the handling capacity of the mechanised facility and the role of coordinated cargo operations in supporting port productivity. As a major port on India’s eastern coast, Paradip handles bulk cargo that supports the country’s industrial, trade and logistics requirements.

The port authority continues to focus on improving infrastructure utilisation, streamlining cargo movement and enhancing operational efficiency. Increased loading rates can contribute to more efficient vessel operations, although overall turnaround times also depend on factors such as berthing schedules and cargo logistics.
