About AGPL

AGPL is a port in Andhra Pradesh, India, operated by Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Limited (APSEZ). It has an installed capacity of 0.5 million TEUs and handled 0.15 – 0.20 Million TEUs in FY25.

As of January 2026, Adani Gangavaram Port Limited (AGPL) has fully transitioned into a premier, multi-cargo gateway on India’s East Coast. Located in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. It is recognised as the deepest all-weather port in India, capable of handling the world’s largest Super Cape-size vessels. The port is located at Gangavaram, Visakhapatnam, adjacent to the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (RINL). It is 100% owned and operated by Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Limited (APSEZ). Following a strategic acquisition completed in 2021, Adani Ports moved from a majority stake to total ownership, integrating Gangavaram into its “string of pearls” port network. Gangavaram serves as a strategic “call-of-choice” for major global carriers such as MSC, Maersk, and COSCO. While Gangavaram has historically been a bulk-heavy port (handling coal, iron ore, and fertiliser), FY25 marked its aggressive entry into the Container Trade. The terminal welcomed its first scheduled container vessel call, the MV Synergy Keelung, in mid-2024. It handles massive import services for coking coal and bauxite, notably serving mother vessels for RINL and the Vedanta alumina refinery. In September 2025, the port set a landmark for internal efficiency by dispatching 48,271 MT of cargo within 24 hours for RINL By early 2026, the terminal had secured regular calls from mainline operators, including MSC (e.g., the MSC Tracy V call in Jan 2026), connecting it to global trade lanes. It primarily operates on a Feeder-and-Relay model. High-frequency feeder services connect Gangavaram to transhipment hubs such as Colombo and the newly operational Vizhinjam Port.

Equipment

  • High-capacity Mobile Harbour Cranes (MHCs) and advanced ship unloaders (2400 TPH)
  • Reach stackers, empty container handlers, and specialised dumper-reclaimers for bulk-to-container integration
  • Two newly inducted locomotives (Jan 2026) for high-speed internal shunting
  • A 3-km automated conveyor system for dust-free, high-speed movement of bulk cargo directly to the stackyards

Facilities & infrastructure

  • 9 operational berths with depths up to 21 meters, allowing fully laden 200,000 DWT vessels
  • 1.4 lakh sq. meters of covered storage and vast open stackyards
  • The port has recently upgraded to the Zodiac Terminal Operating System (TOS), Adani’s proprietary smart-port software
  • Facial Recognition Systems (FRS) and RFID-based truck tracking
  • AI-led vessel scheduling and yard management to ensure a “zero-congestion” environment

Why shippers choose AGPL

  • With the deepest draft in India, it is the only port on the East Coast capable of handling fully laden Super Cape-size vessels (21m draft)
  • Zero Tidal Restrictions: All-weather, 24/7 navigation ensures no “waiting time” due to tides
  • Located on the doorstep of RINL and the Vizag industrial corridor, drastically reducing “last-mile” logistics costs
  • Offers end-to-end “Port to Factory” solutions through Adani’s unified rail and trucking network
