State-owned transport infrastructure consultancy firm RITES Limited has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited to provide end-to-end consultancy services for the development of railway siding infrastructure across HPCL’s facilities.

What does the RITES-HPCL agreement cover?

Under the agreement, RITES will offer consultancy services spanning the entire project lifecycle for railway siding projects, from concept to commissioning. The scope of work includes feasibility studies, final location surveys, preparation of detailed project reports, detailed engineering, project management consultancy, construction supervision, and coordination with Indian Railways to secure statutory approvals.

What is the objective behind this collaboration?

The partnership aims to strengthen rail-based logistics infrastructure for the efficient transportation of petroleum products by supporting the development of new railway sidings, improving rail connectivity, and upgrading existing infrastructure across HPCL’s facilities.

How does this leverage RITES’ expertise?

According to the company, the collaboration will draw on RITES’ experience in railway infrastructure and project management to enhance logistics efficiency while supporting HPCL’s broader infrastructure expansion initiatives.

What does this mean for petroleum logistics in India?

The MoU reflects a growing push to strengthen rail-based movement of petroleum products, an approach that can help oil marketing companies reduce dependence on road transport, improve first and last-mile connectivity to refineries and depots, and support more efficient, cost-effective distribution of fuel across HPCL’s network.
