Apart from the supply of carriages, RITES will offer its expertise in design, spare parts support and training. The contract has a supply with commissioning period of 36 months, followed by a warranty period of 24 months.

The contract has been funded by the European Investment Bank, through a global competitive bidding process.

As part of building the railway infrastructure in Bangladesh, RITES had earlier supplied 120 broad gauge passenger coaches, 36 broad gauge locomotives and 10 meter gauge locomotives to Bangladesh Railways, besides collaborating on other infrastructure projects.

India in the last few years has expanded cooperation with its eastern neighbour in infrastructure projects. In November, prime ministers of both India and Bangladesh, inaugurated EXIM India of India funded Akhaura-Agartala Cross-Border Rail Link, Khulna-Mongla Port Rail Line Project and Maitree Super Thermal Power Project. Akhaura-Agartala Cross-Border Rail Link now presents the shortest rail link between Northeast states and West Bengal.
