Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port (SMP), Kolkata, has reported strong cargo performance with 5.7 million metric tonnes (MMT) of cargo handled in May 2026, reflecting robust operational efficiency and sustained growth across its cargo segments.

Between April and June 2025 alone, SMP Kolkata had already handled 17.186 million metric tonnes of cargo, registering a robust growth of 21.21 per cent compared to the previous year.

Port performance highlights

May 2026 achievement: 5.7 MMT cargo handled

February 2026: 6.193 MMT cargo, up 2.31 per cent year-on-year

April 2025-February 2026 cumulative: 64.026 MMT, marking 10.95 per cent growth over the corresponding period last year

FY 2023-24 record: The port previously broke all-time record by handling 66.4 MMT of cargo, a 1.11 per cent increase from its earlier record of 65.66 MMT in 2022-23

Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata is India’s only riverine major port, located 203 kilometres from the sea in Kolkata, West Bengal.
