The trial cargo operations of the first ship to berth at NCB-3, run by JSW Tuticorin Multipurpose Terminal, were flagged off by Susanta Kumar Purohit, IRSEE, Chairperson. The private terminal can handle ships up to 95,000 deadweight tons (dwt) with a draft of 14.20 metres and a quay length of 306 meters. The terminal can discharge dry-bulk goods such coal, limestone, gypsum, rock phosphate, and copper concentrate because it has two harbor mobile cranes with a 120-ton capacity.

After loading 88,000 tons of limestone from the port of Mina Saqr, United Arab Emirates, the ship MV. Ulivia berthed at the terminal and started the trial discharge operations. India Cements Limited is the consignee and Global Shipping Pvt. Ltd. is the ship agency for the vessel.

The event was attended by key executives from the port and JSW, including Kartikayan Singal, key VP-Business Development & Marketing, Padmini Kant Mishra, Executive VP-Terminals, A. Ganesan, Chief Mechanical Engineer, VOC Port, and Kavin Maharaj, CVO.
