UltraTech Cement Limited, the Aditya Birla Group’s cement flagship, plans to expand its electric vehicle fleet to more than 600 heavy-duty electric trucks by December 2026 as part of its efforts to reduce emissions from logistics operations.

The company has signed service contracts with leading electric vehicle prime mover manufacturers, including Tata Motors, Ashok Leyland, IPLTech, Energy in Motion and Sany, along with their subsidiaries and other third-party logistics providers, for the deployment of electric trucks. The planned fleet of more than 600 electric trucks will transport around five million tonnes of clinker and other key materials every year.

The vehicles will operate across Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra and Odisha. Once fully operational, the fleet is expected to reduce net annual carbon dioxide emissions by more than 117,000 tonnes, displacing the equivalent of approximately 39 million litres of diesel consumption every year.

K C Jhanwar, Managing Director, UltraTech Cement Limited, said UltraTech is expanding sustainability beyond its plants by adopting greener logistics solutions, adding that this large-scale transition to green logistics underscores the company’s focus on decarbonising every link of its value chain and supports its commitment to achieving Net Zero.

UltraTech’s logistics electrification programme covers mine-to-plant movements and inter-plant transportation of clinker and other materials. The company introduced CNG trucks in 2021 and began deploying heavy-duty electric trucks in 2024, and currently operates more than 850 CNG and electric vehicles in its green logistics fleet, having been the first cement company to deploy heavy-duty electric trucks for long-haul transport at scale. UltraTech currently has over 200 MTPA of grey cement capacity in India and has committed to the GCCA’s Climate Ambition 2050 and Net Zero Concrete roadmap.
