V.O. Chidambaranar port set a new record by handling 2,04,650 tonnes of cargo on February 23 by surpassing the previous record of 2,04,512 tonnes handled on October 30, 2024. Currently, two harbour mobile cranes having the capacity of handling 120 tonnes are positioned at North Cargo Berth-2 and three harbour mobile cranes at berths 1 to 5 clocking an daily output of 45,000 tonnes.

Additionally, the port has also announced concessions on wharfage for handling bulk cargo at North cargo berth 2 and coal jetty 2. Susanta Kumar Purohit, IRSEE and Chairperson of V.O.C. Port stated that the fully mechanised shore unloaders, capable of handling 7 million tonnes annually, will be commissioned by JSW Infrastructure Ltd by 2026.
