Indian Railways and Container Corporation of India (CONCOR) have launched a new “Assured Transit” container train service connecting ICD-Whitefield in Bengaluru to ICD-Tughlakabad in Delhi, aimed at strengthening domestic freight movement and improving logistics connectivity between southern industrial hubs and the Delhi-NCR market.

The service guarantees a transit time of 166 hours for the roughly 2,500-km journey, Union Minister V Somanna said at the flag-off ceremony at Whitefield railway station, calling it the first such service introduced in South India and one that will greatly benefit industries in Karnataka.

Under the service, a domestic container rake will be dispatched from ICD-Whitefield every Saturday and moved to ICD-Tondiarpet in Chennai, which acts as a primary aggregation hub. From there, the containers connect with the onward domestic rail service operating from Chennai to ICD-Tughlakabad in Delhi.

The assured transit time of 166 hours is about 30% lower than the current transit time, the minister said. The service is expected to provide industries across Bengaluru and major industrial corridors in Karnataka, including Hoskote, Whitefield, Malur, Bommasandra, Electronics City, Bidadi, Jigani, Anekal, Attibele and Dabaspet, with a more predictable and cost-effective freight link to Delhi-NCR, helping businesses improve inventory planning and logistics management.

The launch builds on Indian Railways’ broader push toward assured transit time services, following a similar pilot launched between Delhi and Kolkata in 2025 that guaranteed a 120-hour transit time on a bi-weekly schedule. The Bengaluru-Delhi service reflects the railways’ continued focus on customer-centric, reliable and sustainable logistics solutions, offering manufacturers a dependable alternative to road transport for time-sensitive cargo movement between southern production centres and northern market areas.
