About AHCT

AHCT is a container terminal in Gujarat, India, operated by Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Limited (APSEZ). It has an installed capacity of 1 million TEUs per annum and handled 0.82 million TEUs in FY25.

As of January 2026, the Adani Hazira Container Terminal (AHCT), part of the larger Adani Hazira Port, has cemented its status as a premier multi-cargo gateway for South Gujarat and Central India. Strategically located in the Gulf of Khambhat near Surat, it offers a high-efficiency alternative to the Mumbai-cluster ports, particularly for the chemical, textile, and automotive belts. The terminal is located at Hazira, Surat, Gujarat. It is 100% owned and operated by Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Limited (APSEZ). Unlike some joint-venture terminals at Mundra, AHCT is a standalone Adani facility, enabling seamless integration with the group’s broader “Logistics as a Service” digital ecosystem.

AHCT is a critical port of call for the 2M Alliance (Maersk, MSC) and the Ocean Alliance (CMA CGM, COSCO). It frequently hosts mother vessels on the South Asia-Europe and India-Africa routes, reducing the need for transhipment via Colombo or Singapore. Beyond container traffic, the Hazira port complex achieved a record liquid throughput, handling over 0.5 million metric tonnes in a single month in late 2025. Weekly services such as the IAS and BIGEX2 connect Hazira directly to the Middle East (Jebel Ali, Khalifa), the Red Sea, and Southeast Asia.

Facilities & infrastructure

  • 2 dedicated container berths with a total quay length of 650 metres and a deep draft of 14.5 to 15.0 metres
  • 20 hectares of paved container yard with specialised zones for Hazardous (IMDG) cargo
  • 400 reefer plug points, essential for South Gujarat’s textile and perishable exports
  • Capability to handle Ro-Ro (automotive), break-bulk, and liquid cargo within the same port complex
  • AHCT operates as a “Smart Port.” It utilises Zodiac, Adani’s proprietary, next-generation Terminal Operating System

Why shippers choose AHCT

  • One of the few ports in the region capable of handling large container vessels (up to 13,000 TEUs) without tidal restrictions
  • Provides a significant time advantage for South Gujarat industries (Vapi, Ankleshwar) by avoiding Mumbai’s urban traffic bottlenecks
  • The only terminal in the region where a shipper can handle container, liquid, and bulk cargo at a single integrated facility
  • 100% electrification of yard equipment and a “Green Channel” for DPD (Direct Port Delivery) cargo, significantly reducing dwell times

Shipping lines & services

Hinterland connectivity

Rail & road

AHCT serves a wide network across the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC): Linked to over 30 ICDs in the hinterland, including major hubs in Ahmedabad (Vatva), Hyderabad, and the NCR. CONCOR is the primary rail partner, having signed a landmark MoU in late 2025 to transport bulk cement in specialised tank containers via AHCT. Private operators such as Adani Logistics and DP World (Hazira Inland Terminal) operate dedicated “shuttle trains” between the port and North India, utilising the port’s proximity to the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC) to guarantee 36-hour transit times to Delhi-NCR.
