Maruti Suzuki has emerged as India’s leading electric vehicle exporter in the June 2026 quarter, driving a sharp surge in the country’s overall EV shipments as its e-Vitara model gained traction across new international markets.

How much have India’s EV exports grown this quarter?

India’s electric vehicle exports rose 14-fold in the June 2026 quarter, climbing to 15,641 units from just 1,122 units in the same period last year, according to industry data. The quarterly volume alone represented more than half of the 28,652 EVs exported during the entire previous financial year, with the surge coinciding with rising fuel prices in several global markets following the US-Iran conflict, which boosted demand for electric vehicles internationally.

How did Maruti Suzuki drive this export growth?

Maruti Suzuki accounted for the bulk of the export volume through its e-Vitara model, which was shipped to 47 countries during the quarter. The company exported 15,210 units of the e-Vitara alone, adding 20 new international markets, largely across Europe. The e-Vitara also became India’s third most-exported passenger vehicle model during the quarter, trailing only the Maruti Fronx at 23,803 units and the Jimny at 21,840 units.

What does this mean for Maruti Suzuki’s broader export performance?

Maruti Suzuki exported nearly 125,000 vehicles across all models to around 120 countries during the quarter, reinforcing its position as India’s largest overall vehicle exporter. The company has shipped over 40,000 e-Vitara units since exports began and plans to introduce four more electric vehicles by 2030 as part of its long-term EV strategy.

How are other automakers responding to India’s EV export momentum?

Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles is also scaling up its export ambitions, announcing an investment of up to Rs 40,000 crore over five years to raise annual production capacity to 1.3 million vehicles by FY31, up from around 900,000 currently, as Indian automakers increasingly position the country as a growing hub for electric vehicle manufacturing and export.
